ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Writing as C.E. McLean, Catherine's science-fiction, contemporary romance, and paranormal short stories have sold to both hard-copy and online magazines and anthologies. Currently she has a lighthearted, flash-fiction, science fiction short story ("Just Desserts") at www.GoldenVisionsMagazine.biz. She continues to market novel-length work as well as short stories
Before turning to fiction, Catherine was a journalist and spent eleven years as the editor of a regional specialty publication. Of two newsletters she edited, one garnered her a national award.
She has had two dozen articles published on the craft of writing fiction and has given more than thirty workshops to writers both in person and online.
Catherine has completed the rigorous Professional Writing Courses at the University of Oklohoma and is a member of the Online Writing Workshop for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror as well as Fantasy Writing, and Broad Universe.
Catherine earned an RWA (Romance Writers of America) Pro Pin and has been a member of RWA and two of its chapters. She has also been a member of the International Women's Writing Guild (IWWG).
In 1995, Catherine joined PennWriters, a statewide writer's organization of some five hundred members where she holds the status of Published Penn. She has worn the hats of the PennWriters Annual Writing Contest chair and from 2004-2008, she served as PennWriters' Area 1 Representative. Currently, she volunteers as the PennWriters Round Robin Critique Coordinator. In 2010, she was awarded the PennWriters Meritorious Service Award.
Catherine sincerely believes a writer needs to be self-educated so she reads extensively about the business and craft of writing and attends workshops and conferences. She has given more than thirty five workshops to writers, judged numerous writing contests, privately edited and evaluated work to pinpoint what the author needs to learn and shares her acquired knowledge and expertise in order to help others achieve their writing goals.
PERSONAL INFORMATION:
Catherine lives on a farm in Western Pennsylvania where she and her husband raised and trained Morgan Sport Horses. Catherine has not only garnered riding and driving horse show championships, but is also a Reserve National Champion Competitive Trail Rider. She and her husband share their rambling farmhouse with three opinionated cats -- inherited from their daughter daughter when she went off to culinary school -- and one Rough-Coat Jack Russell Terrier who thinks he's a cat.
